Joining the debate started in 2008 at Saragozza (water and sustainable development) to be followed by the Universal Expo in 2015 in Milan (nourish the planet), this year I Maestri del Paesaggio has been inspired by the water and has as its focus “Feel the Water”.
Water as a natural element and at the same time a design tool, a huge area of interest which we observe in areas from the creation of the most innovative Urban Landscapes to the maze of canals and drainage channels which have for centuries served our lowlands and given life to agricultural landscapes. This year the designers were inspired by the plain of Lombardy and its characteristic waterways, bringing nature to the city to co-exist with architecture and history.
At the heart of the event is the International Meeting at the Teatro Sociale (14th and 15th of September), a unique opportunity to hear and meet personalities from the world of landscape design discussing the landscape, gardens and the theme of “Feel the water”.
This year the designers were inspired by the plain of Lombardy and its characteristic waterways, the maze of canals and drainage channels which have for centuries served our lowlands and given life to typical Italian landscapes The second symbolic element is the growing wood, represented by hornbeam of different dimensions.
These elements will be connected by a red thread, a bright red, winding pathway where children may play and chase one another.
The sustainable project was overseen by Lucia Nusiner in collaboration with Studio GPT, lighting design by Maurizio Quargnale. Plants chosen require low watering and maintenance.
